(Fade from black)
A large tiger is wearing a flak jacket and EDF Pattern helmet, over his Hawaiian shirt and shorts. He's ducking behind a wall while speaking into a handycam.
He says: “This is Kenn Harlinen reporting again, here on the planet Jika. If you've been following the story, you'll know that until recently, Jika was a quiet mining colony, made special only by very large fungi and some icky scaly things. But for the past three weeks it has been the scene of intense military activity.
I'm embedded with an EDF Armoured Infantry Unit - I can't say which one for security reasons, or say exactly where we are. But I can say that there's bitter fighting going on for control of this important railroad junction, with no clear winner in sight, as far as I can tell.
The campaign has moved out of the strategic phase, and dived right down into tooth and claw at the small unit level."
He pauses, and ducks deeper as a spray of badly aimed fire passes over the wall.
"In fact, it's probably a bit warm for me, right now. The unit I'm embedded with has been fighting for control of this dirtball town for several days, and although casualties have been taken, it looks to this critter as though the other side is not doing as well. Every day and night there are EDF air strikes on enemy positions and transport column (cuts to strike camera imagery of a gunship strike on a column of wheeled APC) and it seems as though the air war is also going in the EDF's favour.
While nobody is specifically saying it, the prisoners I've seen are all lapines, which is as strong a hint as you can have that the ILR is behind this. Although GNN is impartial, as you know, and that's only my opinion, there's been no evidence presented to dispute these facts."
He peers round the edge of the wall and then pulls back quickly.
"That's all for now. Kenn Harlinen - GNN, Jika"
